Chosen in the spring term of Year 9, a broad range of GCSE subjects are available to our students. With an emphasis on personal enquiry and independent study, Reddam House Secondary School's curriculum appeals to the unique strengths and ambitions of each student. 

Secondary School students generally study 10 subjects, which include Maths, English (Language and Literature), Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as standard, and then choose a further four subjects from a selection of options that include Computer Science, History, Geography, French, Spanish, Drama, Art and Design, Dance, Physical Education, Media Studies, Business Studies, and Music.

The regular Cycle Tests which are part of our programme mean that Secondary School students are regularly revising using past paper questions, online quizzes and flashcards among other things in preparation for the next Cycle Test.

Qualifications in Our Senior School


In our Secondary School in Wokingham, Berkshire, students sit GCSEs in Year 11, and choose between A levels and BTECs in the 6th form.

The Higher Project Qualification (HPQ) is a research qualification that is roughly equivalent to a GCSE. Students start this qualification in Year 9, finishing it in Year 10. It allows students to discover the joys of independent learning, take responsibility for their own study and develop new life and study skills. It has been designed to stretch and challenge students, by developing important academic skills required at higher education. These skills include referencing; essay writing; creating a bibliography; creating a presentation; and researching and deploying secondary and primary sources.

Co-curricular Activities & Clubs in Secondary School


Senior School students are expected to sign up for two after-school activities per week, with CCF on a Thursday being compulsory for Year 10. The aim of our programme is to add value to the student experience by allowing them the space and time to develop socially, academically and physically. Options available are extremely varied and can include the following:

All senior pupils are expected to progress through the various levels of the Duke of Edinburgh award and pupils in Years 9 and 10 participate in the Combined Cadet Force (CCF), which trains cadets in skills such as first aid, map reading and survival. Termly field days, together with weekend and summer camps give cadets the opportunity to enhance their skills at local military training bases, alongside professional members of the armed forces.

Sports at Secondary School


At Reddam House Berkshire, we are passionate about sport and outdoor pursuits. Our excellent facilities, including sports courts, fields and an indoor swimming pool, allows our senior students to take part in a variety of sporting activities, including: football, rugby, hockey, netball, tennis, gymnastics, swimming, athletics, circuits, fitness training and pilates. In addition, work on nutrition, lifestyle and exercise physiology takes place in the A2B (Aspire to Be) Programme.

Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon fixtures offer an opportunity to take part in competitive leagues and matches against local schools. We see the value in the collaborative element of team games and students are encouraged to participate in House sporting events too.

Arts at Secondary School


Senior students at Reddam House explore various expressive and performing arts subjects at GCSE level. Dance, Drama and Theatre Studies, Music, Art and Design offer a creative outlet for students and a rigorous academic curriculum with which to complement the EBacc subjects. The department aims to provide many opportunities for pupils to act, direct, design, devise and produce. The Arts thrive as academic subjects at Reddam House and are taught throughout the school.

Student Support 

The relationship between student and tutor develops during these vital examination years, creating a strong coaching relationship built on mutual respect. Tutors will be the first port of call for guidance and support in all areas of the curriculum and in the wider life of the school. Every student has two one to one meetings with their tutor every half term.
