A peaceful start to the school day with sunlight streaming through the windows, art materials beautifully arranged around the classroom with natural objects, treasures retrieved from walks in the extensive grounds, placed alongside to inspire creativity and exploration.
Children and staff share a welcome, enjoying time together, children are happy and secure, and settle in quickly to their day. The importance of the individual is central to the Reddam House approach, the potential of every child is uncovered, nurtured and celebrated in all aspects of school life. The focus on strong, nurturing relationships between teacher and child, children and their peers and, school and home, are of vital importance to us.
In each area of the classroom little pockets of interest are placed to invite children into play. These provocations, resources deliberately chosen to spark curiosity, engage the interest and develop thinking. Highly qualified and dedicated staff observe and reflect, engaging the children to stimulate development of thinking and learning.
The classroom is ever changing, meeting the needs and interests of the class, each day is a new chance for exploration; who knows where the children will lead the learning or develop the project? We have a rhythm for the day, rather than a strict timetable, which allows flexibility to follow those moments when a child is filled with wonder and curiosity, or is deeply focussed and engrossed in their learning. The ability of a child to be a co-constructor of their own learning is treasured and encouraged, your child is given time and space to explore.
Our eldest pupils in the Early Learning School, our Reception Class (Stage 5) begin the important work of ‘formal schooling’ set within this nurturing environment, giving them room to grow and confidence to spread their wings. Being the oldest age group in the Early Learning School allows children to enjoy positions of responsibility, e.g. setting the table for their peers, being good role models for younger children and demonstrating skills and ideas in our outdoor learning environment.
We provide the highest quality of education, developing reading, writing and number skills in a rich and stimulating environment with an enquiry based learning curriculum at the heart of all that we do. This allows for rapid acquisition of the basics and a foundation in critical and creative thinking, developing higher order problem solving skills. Our Reception age pupils regularly exceed national standards and show focus and enthusiasm in their learning.
For tiny babies to school age children, Reddam House Berkshire is an exciting and inspiring place to grow and to learn. It is impossible, on a static page, to reflect the genuine buzz of excitement in our classrooms, or to show you the creative curiosity sparked in our children, to show you the pure joy the exhibit daily as they discover new things, but we hope that the glimpse of our daily lives in the pages below will allow you a little glimpse into our school and our family.
